ALAN D. LERNER, LCSW
PSYCHOTHERAPIST
You deserve to live a fulfilling life with healthy relationships and satisfying life choices. It is natural and common to feel "blocked" or "stuck" as you travel through life's challenges. It is normal to feel sad, frustrated, angry or confused... to feel like no one, even a partner or a family member, understands what you are going through. I am an experienced clinician who has successfully helped many individuals, couples and families understand the barriers to meeting their needs and identify the ways and means to move forward.
Welcome to my website. I am a clinical social worker licensed to practice in New Jersey and New York, with over sixteen years experience helping adults, adolescents, couples and families in my private practice and in Bergen County’s Department of Human Services.
My approach to therapy is humanistic - I provide a compassionate and safe environment in which I help you to better understand yourself and your story. Together we identify the source of whatever challenges you are facing while we consider the strengths you already possess. In this process we unearth ways for you to feel better - to heal, to recover and to thrive.
I am trained to provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is highly effective for many areas of need such as trauma, PTSD, anxiety and self-esteem.
I look forward to assisting you on your journey to a healthy and satisfying life.
